The Cass County Environmental Control Agency /dba/ Cass County Landfill & Recycling Center was chosen to participate in the state's new Environmental Management System (EMS) pilot program. The Environmental Protection Commission approved six solid waste agencies in the state of Iowa to take part in the pilot program. Eight agencies applied, and only six were chosen. Other planning areas chosen were: Rathbun Area Solid Waste Commission, Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency, Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency, Metro Waste Authority and Waste Commission of Scott County.
"This pilot program is all about continuously improving what we do for Cass County to prevent pollution, reduce waste and promote recycling", said Wendy Wittrock, Cass County Landfill Operations Manager. "Cass County continually strives to offer the best waste management practices available to the residents."
"We are excited to be among the first six to participate in this program", said Ray Zellmer, Cass County Environmental Control Agency board chair. "We feel we have made great strides in landfilling and recycling in Cass County and are excited about the possibilities this program will offer."
